3. WHAT IS MODEST FASHION?
It's a personal style and growing global industry that's gaining attention in U.S. mainstream markets. Some definitions include:
- a design esthetic that de-emphasizes the human form, and women's sexuality specifically
- trending styles that flatter and fit women of all shapes and ages
- clothing that reflects lifestyle choices based on culture, religion, politics or personal preference
Modesty can be visible, (such as women and men covering their heads in public), or invisible, (as a spiritual practice). In 'modest' cultures, similar standards apply to men and youth.
4. WHY MODEST FASHION?
We created Malikah Festival to share the beauty, elegance and diversity of modest fashion with the general public. We also want to reduce negative, inaccurate stereotypes about women who dress modestly.
Join us for an in-depth peek into the world of women who proudly wear their values. We'll hold public discussions about the "why" behind headscarf. This includes many ways of covering that reflect current fashion trends and generational, religious and national differences.
5. DO I NEED A TICKET?
Not for the main event May 6.
6. ARE CHILDREN WELCOME?
IYES! However, Saturday's fashion show is in City Council Chambers, which holds only 75 people. We ask that small children who can't stay seated explore the lobby or play outside.
